Mutton Cove can produce lovely scallops over the summer months and separation point will produce crays all year round-make sure you have a torch and a cray loop that we sell in the shop as these crays tend to sit back in there holes.
Awaroa Heads is the start of the marine reserve from golden bay Northen end of the park. Here you should get some nice sizes crays around the 5-6lb mark most days of the week.
Pinnacle Island will produce crays in not bad numbers from Oct-March. make sure you look over the rocks to the right of main Island. You can come off the rock and on to the sand and you should pick up a feed of scallops and you might get the odd flounder as well.
Fisherman Island is just 10 mins from kaiteriteri beach and will have snapper and crays from oct-march. There are some nice big holes to check out- vis will only be about 1-2m at the best of times. This place can produce 10lb crays.
The Arches at Wharariki Beach. One of the untouch spots that can produce good size crays. caution!!! this place must be treated with respect as the sea can get very big!! also have large rips as well. Not to bad to fish in this area as well see fishing for more details.
The actual resurgence belies its spectacle underwater as the black hole leads to a pitch dark chamber from where the underground river can be explored further, but it is dangerous. Water temp at the best of times is about 9 degrease and its bloody dark!!! We do want to make sure you enjoy your dive so make sure you drop in and have a chat and we might just come along for a dive with you if the boss lets us. Afternoon is a great time to go in as the water turns green with the sun light on the trees above -looks great.
A diver explores the dark cavern of the Riwaka resurgence.
